(CBS) – Twenty-nine years ago, seven individuals met in a Manhattan loft and let the world see what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real. The Real World was born in 1992 and would go on to become a cultural phenomenon with 33 season under its belt to date. For the first time since the early 90s all seven original castmates will be together again when The Real World Homecoming: New York premieres on March 4th as part of the launch of Paramount+.
CBS’ Matt Weiss caught up with Julie Gentry and Andre Comeau ahead of Thursday’s premiere to discuss what it’s like 29 year later when things stop polite and start getting real.

JG: Well, we were really surprised I will say. We got the text or phone call in early December. With everything going on with COVID and the pandemic, I don’t think any of us really thought that we could pull it off and really film this. It was a challenge. Once we knew the seven of us were all on board and it would be an opportunity for the seven of us to be together again, we really warmed to the idea.
AC: I was a little apprehensive. We weren’t exactly sure what the format was going to be at first. To find out that it was going to be the original cast, all seven of us, in times of COVID, we weren’t really even sure that it was going to happen. It was the right concept, when we found out it was going to be the original cast, there were no second thoughts.
MW: You all in that first season were really the pioneers of reality television. What was that like when there was no precedent for what you were doing?
JG: I mean stepping back exactly when we did it, we really did not know what we were doing. Thinking about it out loud, that’s probably why our cast is still friends. We really did have to trust each other a lot and put a lot of faith in each other to get through that first original season.
From having that friendship over all these years it did give us, I think, a little more comfort than some people might have imagined coming back in. In some ways because we do know how to do this with each other.
MW: You’ve all had kept in touch over the years then it sounds like?
JG: We have all kept in touch. Usually, we can pull it off or there’s a few of us together here or a few of us together there. Whenever we’re traveling we try to catch up and see each other. But this really is the first time since the early 90s since all seven of us could really get together and be in the same space.
MW: Wow, that’s really nice. Andre, what was it like when you saw everyone together for the first time? It must have been like a family reunion.
AC: It was exactly like a family reunion, it was great. We have kept in touch with each other. I’m in Los Angeles and I travel to New York frequently. I try to catch up with Kevin and Heather who live in New York. Often people visit Los Angeles, so I see people when they’re in town.

MW: You had New York as the backdrop for that very first season. What does the city mean to each of you and what was that experience like, being in New York?
JG: I’m so sentimental about New York and the time moving there right when I turned 19. All of that was so great for me in so many ways. When I came back into New York and getting to have this experience again, it’s kind of like winning the lottery twice.
AC: I moved to New York a year to the day before we moved into the loft in 1992. I moved to New York with my band in 1991 well, New Jersey, the Metro New York area. I’ve just loved that city so much my whole life.
I’ve been in Los Angeles now for 25 years. New York will always have a special place in my heart. It was really wonderful to go back there and to go back to the original loft that we shot our show in and to spend time with these seven people that we have such a bond, such a connection. We are a family.
MW: To all the fans who have been waiting decades to see you all together again, any message for those folks who are excited to see you on March 4th?
JG: Hope we don’t disappoint you. [laughs] I hope that we’re well-received again. I never imagined that people would be as interested in the show as they were. That was a real surprise to me. I’m really interested and excited to see what people think about it this time.
AC: Well, I think if they liked the first season of our show, they’re going to like this one. It’s very much more of that cut from the same cloth. We handle tough conversations. We connect on that same level, it’s a ride.
MW: Great to know you’ve all kept in touch an remained friends. Excited to see how it looks when you all get together in person again. Thank you so much for the time and all the best to you both!
AC: Thank you!

Total revenues of $5.252 billion is third highest total in Mass Lottery history
State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg announced today that the Massachusetts State Lottery produced an estimated $979 million in net profit for the Commonwealth during the 2020 fiscal year that began July 1, 2019 and ended June 30, 2020.
Lottery revenues rang in at an estimated $5.252 billion, the third highest total in the Lottery’s 49-year history. It is the sixth consecutive year that revenues have surpassed the $5 billion mark.
“Our top priority during these unprecedented times has been the health and well-being of our employees and customers,” said Treasurer Deb Goldberg, Chair of the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission. “I am grateful for our loyal customers and proud of the work the Lottery team and dedicated retail partners have done to adjust operations in order to continue to generate essential local aid. At a time when we face mounting challenges, these resources are even more critical for our cities and towns.”
In fiscal year 2019, the Lottery set a record net profit of $1.104 billion and record revenues of $5.509 billion.
“From the early stages of the pandemic, the Lottery has been committed to operating within the guidelines recommended by state and federal officials, taking significant measures to create a safe environment for Lottery team members and the public,” said Michael Sweeney, the Lottery’s Executive Director. “I commend our team members for their ability to quickly and responsibly implement and adapt to new and modified operating procedures during what has been a uniquely challenging time in all of our lives. The team’s performance under these conditions is the most impressive accomplishment in my time at the Lottery. More important than setting records across the board last year, we faced significant operational challenges and overcame them.”
Fiscal year 2020 revenues and net profit were greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall sales in the months of March, April and May decreased by a combined $244.6 million compared to the same period of fiscal year 2019.
As restaurants and bars remained closed for an extended period of time, fiscal year 2020 Keno sales were most affected by the pandemic. Keno sales totaled $979.0 million, a $76.2 million (7.2 percent) decrease from record sales of $1.055 billion in fiscal year 2019.
As a result of a strong performance prior to the onset of the pandemic and solid sales in the month of June, instant ticket sales for the 2020 fiscal year totaled $3.646 billion, a $27.2 million (0.74 percent) decrease from record sales of $3.673 billion in fiscal year 2019.
Due primarily to smaller jackpots over the course of fiscal year 2020, Mega Millions and Powerball sales decreased by a combined $141.0 million compared to fiscal year 2019. Mega Millions sales were down $78.6 million (50.9 percent), while Powerball sales were down $62.4 million (47.1 percent).
While the FY 2020 figures have not been formally audited, the Lottery does not expect them to change substantially once that annual review process is complete. Lottery officials anticipate completing the finalized financial statement of operations by the end of September.
The Lottery’s network of retailers earned an estimated $300.8 million in commissions and bonuses in FY 2020. With approximately 7,500 retailers, that amounts to an average of over $40,000 in income for each of the Lottery’s retail partners.
The Lottery paid out an estimated $3.866 billion in prizes in FY 2020, the third highest total in its history. An estimated 73.6 percent of all revenue was returned to players in FY 2020. Prize payouts can fluctuate from year to year based on the schedule or rate at which players cash in their prizes. In FY 2020, Lottery players won 185 prizes valued at $1 million or more, including 23 prizes valued at $2 million or more.
The Lottery’s administrative costs remained at approximately 2.0 percent of overall revenues.
The Massachusetts State Lottery was created in 1972 to generate local aid revenues for the Commonwealth’s cities and towns. Since its inception, the Lottery has returned more than $28 billion in net profit to the Commonwealth

April 23, 2020The Lottery has extended the claims period for instant tickets, draw game tickets and monitor game tickets with expiration dates of March 19, 2020 to June 29, 2020. The expiration date for these tickets is now June 30, 2020. For example, a winning ticket from an April 15, 2019 drawing will not expire until June 30, 2020 (draw and monitor game prizes usually expire one year from the date of the drawing).

Changes will take place following the Friday, April 3, drawing
The Mega Millions Consortium has adjusted the game’s starting jackpot and will determine the amounts of subsequent starting jackpots and jackpot increases on a drawing-by-drawing basis. The changes are in direct response to slowing sales during the current global pandemic..
The advertised Mega Millions jackpot for Friday, April 3, is a guaranteed $121 million. If the jackpot is won that evening, it will reset to a guaranteed $20 million for the next drawing on April 7. If there is no jackpot winner on April 3, the jackpot will roll to an annuitized value of $127 million. Immediately following the drawing on April 3, the next new starting jackpot and the rate at which the jackpot increases will be established based on game sales and interest rates, with no fixed minimum amount. Subsequent jackpot amounts will be determined and announced prior to each drawing. Previously, the jackpot started at $40 million, and the minimum increase was $5 million for each roll.
“The value of the Mega Millions jackpot is based on projected sales, and typical sales patterns have been altered because the current health crisis has required people to stay home,” said Gordon Medenica, Lead Director of the Mega Millions Consortium and Director of Maryland Lottery and Gaming. “We are concerned, first and foremost, with everyone’s health and well-being. Meanwhile, these adjustments will allow the states and jurisdictions that sell Mega Millions tickets to continue generating much-needed revenue to support state budgets.”
Mega Millions tickets are $2 and are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are held each Tuesday and Friday. Half of the proceeds from the sale of each Mega Millions ticket remains in the state where the ticket was sold, where the money supports lottery beneficiaries and retailer commissions. Lottery revenues are allocated differently in each jurisdiction.
April 2, 2020Guaranteed starting jackpot amounts & minimum jackpot increases to be eliminated
The Powerball Product Group today announced its decision to determine Powerball’s advertised jackpot based on game sales and interest rates. Following the April 8 drawing, guaranteed starting jackpot amounts and minimum jackpot increases will be eliminated, and future jackpot increases will be determined and announced by the Product Group prior to each drawing. Previously, Powerball® jackpots started at $40 million (annuity) and increased by a minimum of $10 million (annuity) between drawings.
“These changes are necessary to ensure that ticket sales can support the Powerball jackpot and other lower-tier cash prizes,” said Gregg Mineo, Powerball Product Group Chairman and Maine Lottery Director. “Our number one priority is making sure that the Powerball game can continue to assist lotteries in raising proceeds for their beneficiaries.”
The Powerball Product Group announced plans last week to reduce the starting jackpot to $20 million (annuity) and minimum jackpot increases to $2 million (annuity) between drawings. Those changes were scheduled to go into effect after the current jackpot was won. However, due to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, the Powerball Product Group revisited the topic and decided Powerball’s advertised jackpot should be determined by game sales and interest rates effective following the drawing next Wednesday.
“Since last week, more states and cities have asked their residents to stay at home, which has affected normal consumer behaviors and Powerball game sales,” said Mineo. “In response to the public health crisis, interest rates have declined. As a result, additional game sales are necessary to fund comparable jackpot amounts.”

The advertised Powerball jackpot for Saturday’s drawing is a guaranteed $180 million. If the jackpot rolls, it will grow to a guaranteed $190 million for the April 8 drawing. If the jackpot is won on Saturday night, it will reset to a guaranteed $20 million for the April 8 drawing and continue to grow based off sales and interest rates.
Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. “Powerball players in many U.S. lottery jurisdictions are under shelter-in-place orders or recommendations from their governors or mayors, which have affected normal consumer behaviors,” said Gregory Mineo, Powerball Product Group Chairman and Maine Lottery Director. “Just like other enterprises around the world that are making adjustments, we are making proactive changes to continue to offer the world’s premier lottery product.”
The advertised jackpot for the Wednesday, March 25 drawing is a guaranteed $150 million; $114.8 million cash value. If the jackpot is won in this drawing, the jackpot will reset to a guaranteed $20 million (annuity) for the Saturday, March 28 drawing with minimum jackpot roll increases of $2 million between drawings. If the jackpot is not won tonight, then the jackpot will grow to an estimated $160 million (annuity).

March 16, 2020Two unclaimed $100,000 Mass Cash prizes won in the April 14, 2019 drawing are nearing expiration. Both winning tickets were purchased at Dedham Convenience Store, 69 Cedar St. in Dedham.
The winning numbers are 05-06-11-23-26.
Mass Cash prize winners have one year from the date of the drawing to claim prizes. The final day to claim these prizes is Tuesday, April 14, 2020. Lottery prizes that expire become part of the net profit that the Lottery returns to the Commonwealth for distribution to all 351 cities and towns.
Prizes up to and including $100,000 can be claimed at Lottery claims centers, which are located in Braintree, Dorchester, New Bedford, Springfield, Woburn and Worcester. All prizes over $100,000 must be claimed at Lottery headquarters in Dorchester.
Mass Cash drawings are conducted seven nights a week. The cost of each play is $1. To play, you must pick five out of 35 numbers or choose Quic Pic, which randomly picks the five numbers for you. Players who match all five winning numbers selected in the drawing win a $100,000 prize.
A $100,000 Mass Cash prize won in the February 26, 2019 drawing has been claimed, two days before it was due to expire.
David Gebo of Tyngsborough claimed his $100,000 prize (before taxes) Monday, February 24 at the Lottery’s Woburn regional office. His winning ticket was purchased at Dracut Town Variety, 1734 Lakeview Ave. in Dracut. The store received a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Mass Cash prizes must be claimed within a year of the date of the drawing in which the prize was won. Lottery prizes that expire become part of the net profit that the Lottery returns to the Commonwealth for distribution to all 351 cities and towns.
December 5, 2019Drawings to take place at Lottery headquarters in Dorchester
The Massachusetts State Lottery is unveiling new drawing equipment for The Numbers Game, Mass Cash, and Megabucks Doubler, starting Sunday, December 8.
Coinciding with the introduction of the new equipment, the drawings will be conducted in a new studio within Lottery headquarters in Dorchester.
The Lottery has been presenting its drawings with the same equipment, look and feel for over 20 years. Drawings have taken place at the Lottery’s office in Braintree since 2011. Prior to that, they were held at local television stations as part of broadcast partnerships.
“This is a continuation of our efforts to upgrade to the latest technology, while at the same time offer customers a more appealing presentation of our games,” said Michael Sweeney, Executive Director of the Massachusetts State Lottery.
The conversion to new equipment and a new studio is the first phase of a multi-phase modernization plan for the Lottery’s drawings. Additional phases will include restructuring of the daily schedule of drawings, further enhancing the presentation of the drawings, and conducting remote drawings at locations throughout the state.
The play structure and prize structure for The Numbers Game, Mass Cash, and Megabucks Doubler remain the same.
The Massachusetts State Lottery’s South Shore regional office is moving from 60 Columbian Street in Braintree to 1515 Washington Street, also in Braintree.
The final day of business at the existing location is Thursday, December 12, when the office will be closing at 12 noon. The new office will open Monday, December 16 at 8:45 a.m.
All prizes up to and including $100,000 can be claimed at the South Shore regional office. All prizes over $100,000 must be claimed at the Lottery’s headquarters at 150 Mount Vernon Street in Dorchester.
Regular business hours for all Lottery offices (Dorchester, Braintree, New Bedford, Springfield, Woburn and Worcester) are Monday through Friday, 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding holidays).
October 18, 2019The Massachusetts State Lottery is giving all Red Carpet VIP Club members the chance to win from $1,000 to $10,000 in cash prizes in our “2019 Holiday Promotion”.
Twenty-eight (28) winners shall be randomly selected by the Lottery from all eligible entries.
Promotion Period: Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 9 a.m. – Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 3:00 p.m.
There are two (2)methods of entry for the Promotion, as follows:
(1) VIPClub members may access the “2019 Holiday Promotion” promotional page by clicking on the link posted on the Lottery’s website or Facebook or Twitter pages. Access to the promotional page will also be available on the VIP Club homepage. VIP Club members will be directed to the VIP Club login page (if not logged in previously). VIP Club members will log in using their VIP Club login email address and password. Once logged in, VIP Club members will be brought directly to the promotional page, where they will be asked to manually enter the required entry numbers from any non-winning 2019 $10,000 Winter Ice, 2019 $100,000 Winter Ice or 2019 $1,000,000 Winter Ice tickets, any 2019 Frosty the Doughman or any 2019 Merry Money Blowout tickets into the promotion entry site during the Promotion Period; or
(2) VIP Club members may access the promotional page by downloading the MA Lottery 2nd Chance application and scanning the PDF Barcode from any non-winning Holiday Winter Ice Family, Frosty the Doughman or Merry Money Blowout tickets into the promotion entry site during the Promotion Period.
For every non-winning $10,000 Winter Ice ticket entered, players earn one (1) drawing entry. For every non-winning $100,000 Winter Ice or Frosty the Doughman ticket entered, players earn two (2) drawing entries. For every non-winning $1,000,000 Winter Ice ticket entered, players earn five (5) drawing entries. For every non-winning Merry Money Blowout ticket entered, players earn ten (10) drawing entries.
Only valid entries through the promotional site during the Promotion Period shall be eligible to win.
Up to twenty-eight (28) prizes shall be available to be awarded as a result of the Promotion. The Lottery shall select one (1) $10,000 winner, two (2) $2,500 winners and twenty-five (25) $1,000 winners.
Winners shall be selected within three (3) business days following the end of the Promotion Period. Winners shall be notified via mail that they won a prize within two (2) business days of the drawing date. Winners’ names shall be announced on the Lottery’s website at www.masslottery.com. The winners will be notified by the Lottery that they must complete a claim form and provide proof of his/her Social Security number.

Record-setting revenues result in largest commissions and bonuses for retailers and all-time prize payout for players
State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg announced today that the Massachusetts State Lottery produced $1.104 billion in net profit for the Commonwealth during the 2019 fiscal year that began July 1, 2018 and ended June 30, 2019. This is the highest net profit total in the Lottery’s 48-year history, surpassing the previous record of $1.039 billion set in the 2017 fiscal year. Net profit for the 2018 fiscal year was $997 million, the third highest total.
Lottery revenues rang in at a record high of $5.509 billion, surpassing the previous record of $5.292 billion set last fiscal year. It is the fifth consecutive year that revenues have eclipsed the $5 billion mark.
“Lottery profits provide critical unrestricted aid for all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth,” said Treasurer Goldberg, Chair of the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission. “I am proud of our Lottery team and our dedicated retail partners. Over the last three years, together, they have produced more than $3 billion that directly supports our local communities.”
The Lottery’s network of retailers earned $314 million in commissions and bonuses in FY 2019, also a record, surpassing the previous high of $303 million set in FY 2018. With approximately 7,500 retailers, that amounts to an average of over $41,000 in income for each of the Lottery’s retail partners.
With 72.4 percent of all revenue returned to players in the form of winnings in FY 2019, the Lottery set another record by paying out $3.987 billion in prizes. Prize payouts can fluctuate from year to year based on the schedule or rate at which players cash in their prizes. In FY 2019, Lottery players won 202 prizes valued at $1 million or more, including 26 prizes valued at $2 million or more.
The Lottery’s administrative costs remained approximately 1.9 percent of overall revenues, the lowest of any U.S. lottery.
“With record setting figures across the board, Lottery players, our retail partners, and the 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts are all winners,” said Michael Sweeney, the Lottery’s Executive Director.
The Lottery announced an estimated net profit figure of $1.092 billion in July, noting that the final statement of operations would be completed in the fall. A combination of interest earnings, multi-state game prize settlements and other revenues, including season ticket subscriptions and license renewals, accounted for the increase to $1.104 billion.

The Massachusetts State Lottery and Boston 25 Morning News teamed up to give Mass Lottery Red Carpet VIP Club members the chance to win one of five Instant Ticket prize packs in our “Scratch for Cash” Promotion. Entries for this promotion closed Friday, August 16.
On Friday, August 30, the five winners appeared in person on the Boston 25 Morning News Zip Trip in Newburyport, where it was determined which Instant Ticket prize pack they each won.

Mass Lottery Red Carpet Vip Club Entry
Three $100,000 Mass Cash prizes won in the August 31, 2018 drawing have been claimed, five days before they were due to expire.
All three prizes were claimed by GRT Nominee Trust of Peabody, represented by trustee Martin Scafidi.
These tickets were purchased at Fulcinitis Market, 121 Hammond St. in Waltham. The store received a $1,000 bonus for selling each winning ticket for a total reward of $3,000.
Mass Cash prizes must be claimed within a year of the date of the drawing in which the prize was won. Lottery prizes that expire become part of the net profit that the Lottery returns to the Commonwealth for distribution to all 351 cities and towns.

The Mass Lottery established the first National Lottery Day on July 17, 2018, providing consumers and retail partners with a day of special promotions for lottery products, while celebrating the Lottery as an essential source of unrestricted local aid in the Commonwealth since selling its first ticket in 1972.

The cost of the Jackpot Bundle is $4, so customers will be getting a $5 value for $4.
Keno and All or Nothing 2X Bonus
From July 16-21, the Lottery will add a 2X multiplier to Keno Bonus and All or Nothing Bonus, resulting in more games having a bonus multiplier.
Xtreme Fun Promotion at Lottery Offices
On Wednesday, July 17 (National Lottery Day), with the purchase of the entire family of new X Payout instant tickets ($18 value) at the Lottery’s Dorchester, Braintree, New Bedford, Springfield, Woburn or Worcester offices, customers will get the chance to play Plinko to win Lottery merchandise prizes.

On Wednesday, July 17 (National Lottery Day), the Lottery will be running a promotion on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in which a $500 prize will be awarded to one winner on each of the three platforms.
